I'm having some audio problems with a video file. Apparently, the audio is 3 minutes longer than the video and I need to shorten it. When I view the audio stream, it says it's 37:02. When I save it was a WAV file, the audio file ends up being 34:02--the length of the video file. How can I export the entire audio stream?

What is the audio source? Mp3? AC3? Another wav file? If the source is Mp3 or AC3, it may be VBR instead of CBR. I suggest you go to Audio > Full Processing Mode, then go to Audio > Conversion. In most cases, you'll need your wav to be 48kHz (sampling rate), 16-bit (precision), and 2-channel stereo. You do not specify your video type or the end goal for the video, so I cannot accurately advise. Most audio for editing and DVD authoring must have a 48kHz sampling rate, not the CD audio standard of 41kHz.

I tried that and nothing. I opened the video file in GSpot and it says my video codec is DivX 4 (OpenDivX) and the audio codec is ALAW.

Let me fully describe my problem.

I have this video file that is 37:02 in length. If I open the video in VLC it says the video is 37:02; however, the video cuts off at exactly 34:02 and the only thing that plays is the audio. So, at 34:02, the file is still playing, just the video has disappeared. Does that make any sense?

Do you have the same problem if you try exporting the audio track using, say, AVIDemux, or AVI2WAV?

Yikes, a Divx file. Tricky -- especially if you are trying to extract the audio stream, alter it, and remux it back to the divx file.

Let me ask you this: up to the point where the video portion stops, are sound and picture both in sync? Or is the sound drifting away in its alignment to picture? I can't tell whether you have a defective file with an incomplete video stream, or video and audio streams that are playing at different speeds. I am wondering if the audio stream has an issue with variable bitrate (VBR), but I don't know enough about ALAW audio files. Divx/Xvid audio is usually Mp3.

AVI2WAV got the entire audio file out. Thanks! Now, when I shrink the audio file down to 34:02 and try to put it back as the audio track, I can't delete the old audio track. It says Source: Input AVI file. I can only enable/disable it. What do I do next to finish this video? I've already added the new track so it shows up as two audio streams now.

Disable the source audio and ADD new audio track..Make sure In Video tab, you use "Direct stream copy"..
Source audio will still show in window, but it'll be disabled...Your new audio track will be used in the merge...

If I was doing it I'd use the latest VirtualDub instead, for my final avi..
