I always encoded avi files with Xvid compression method.

I got a new computer with windows vista and reinstalled windows XP on my other computer.

Now for some reason when I open VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod Xvid doesnt even show up on the compression selection list. Why is that??

I have the same exact video codecs that Ive always had installed on both computer, only updated to the newest.

Why wont Xvid show up on the compression choice list next to Divx like it used to??

Thats wierd, all I ever installed was Divx 7, AC3filter, Matroska pack, and Combined community codec pack. Ive never installed anything more than those.

why all of a sudden would I need to download xvid separately?

Maybe you must manually select xvid vfw in the codec pack...or maybe it was removed...or maybe some other video software installed xvid for you.

It can be bit tricky to find the correct version over at xvid, but go to http://www.xvid.org/Downloads.15.0.html and you will find a link to http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html .

    Or use our mirror https://www.videohelp.com/download/Xvid-1.2.2-07062009.exe

well alright, installing xvid on its own worked for me. thanks!!

I just wish I knew why I had to install it separately for the first time. Usually its always already been there for me.

someone or something installed it for you - it didn't just show up one day because it felt like it !
    If in doubt, Google it.
