  1. I guess the thread title should've said "cropping AND joining"

I've been trying to join Xvid .avis encoded from .vobs with autogk 2.55. I've tried VirtualDub, but that program was unable to join the files due to differing resolutions (640x528 and 640x480). I tried using VDub to crop the first .avi to 640x480, but the resulting file would not play properly in VLC.

I also tried two vob merging programs, VobMerge 2.51 and JoinVobFiles, and they were able to join the files but during playback there would be about 8 seconds missing from the beginning of the (original) 2nd file.

Is there any other simple way of joining .avis of different resolutions, or is there some remedy for the vob joining problem?

    Thanks for any help!

  2. I don't use AutoGK but I'm pretty sure it gives you a way to force the frame size.

  3. You can specify the desired width but not height as far as I can tell. If there's a way to do that I'd love to know!

  4. Ah. Why wouldn't VLC play the file you cropped? What codec did you select for the file?

  5. If you really mean one of them is 640x528, then something's wrong somewhere as that's a ratio of only 1.21:1. Anyway, if you want to get them joined, rename the VOBs consecutively before sending them to AutoGK (like VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc.) and they'll both (all?) be picked up automatically. There's no way to join AVIs of differing resolutions after the fact without reencoding one to match the other. This also assumes the DAR for both sets of VOBs is the same (as seems to be the case here, both 4:3)

AGK is geared for those with little or no knowledge of video (the masses) to be able to produce high quality encodes. Too many user options defeats that purpose.

Xvid frame sizes need to be divisible by a fixed multiple, I forget how many pixels. But a mistake on this would result in an unplayable video.
