Hello, using AVI.net there is box that I can click that says DECOMB DEINTERLACING FILTER. I've always converted my dvds to xvid/divx usin avi.net, I love the quality but recently I had to reinstall this program. Now I don't recall if this box was ever checked or left alone.

So my question is what is decomb deinterlacing and do I need to check it? I tried to google it, but most discussion are about homemade DVs. Does decomb deinterlacing apply when you're converting dvd vobs?

    Thank you!

    usually no.
hopefully your material will be nice and progressive.

avi.net uses decomb only to field deinterlace.
ie. if you see combing on preview, it needs deinterlacing.

and if the material is something nasty like a hybrid, avi-net won;t be of any use,
    to properly process.

    leave the box unchecked.

I've done both using clicking the box and not clicking the box. I don't see a difference. But thank you, good to know I don't have to worry about it.

it's worse checking it when it's not needed

If you do have a source that needs deinterlacing and or an IVTC then it is better to use autoGK than avi.NET as autoGK will do a much better job at it.
