    Hi Everyone..

I have ATI all in wonder 9600 video card.. I guess I bought this card about 5-6 years ago..I remember having this same problem when I bought it and than I fixed it but I can't remember how.. Now years later I want to watch TV in my computer but I can't..

When I start the TV tuner, this is message I get
The TV player failed to initialize.

And in DEVICE MANAGER i see
ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver (with yellow !)
Conexant's BtPCI WDM Video capture (With yellow !)

Here is what I've done so far..
I installed the latest ATI drivers. (Though they don't have the best website I'd say)
Searched almost every single forum but nothing..
    I installed the BtPCI drivers,,
I don't even know what that Unified Avstream is

    one more thing,
I just realized that my ati card is shown as SECONDARY.. would that be the reason? I guess I remember something like that..(Years ago)

    Any advice?

This might not be helpful specifically, but .....

Many, many people have issues with ATI drivers, especially those with cards of your vintage (wife has 9800 Pro).

Often, more "recent" drivers / catalyst packages cause more problems than they are worth.

What I would do is uninstall your current drivers / catalyst software and go back to the version that that came on the drivers CD with the card. Maybe even uninstall the card itself via device manager before installing the original drivers.

Failing that, I'd have a search around for catalyst AIW9600 and see if you can find a thread where the discussion of what version works best for your card.

FWIW, wifes PC has version 7.4 installed after experiencing somewhat similar issues with the TV module.

Have a look on your C drive for the ATI folder, you may find the original install package still present in that folder.

Installing the latest drivers was your mistake. Uninstall everything -- everything -- and then load what came on your CD. You'll have ATI MMC 8.7 or 8.8, I would imagine, which is fine.

Manually update the drivers for each device (right click on it) from what's on the CD.

That error suggests you have 2 graphics cards, the ATI and another, probably onboard. You have disabled any onboard graphics in the BIOS I assume?

    I don't know.

Uninstall everything again, from every location possible. There's stuff everywhere. Program Files folders, devices drivers, registry entries, etc. Run CCleaner, use the ATI Uninstall tool, etc.

    Reboot often, between procedures.

Start over. Be sure you're using the right disc.

    Check BIOS as suggested.

I don't see an answer to the question about on board graphics. Do you have on board graphics or, if you don't know, what motherboard do you have?

Remove the card before you reboot. Then run the ATI unistall utility again.

Windows has ATI files in one of the folders. Find them, and delete them.
    c:\windows
    c:\windows\system

OK.. Again I got the same picture (first picture in this post)... I even disabled my internet connection so that nothing could be downloaded from internet...

I deleted everything.. I used Ccleaner..
    I don't have onboard video ....
I installed everything from ati cd...

now I have one last question before I give up..

everything is the same... video card...cd.. motherboard... I could capture and use videos about a year ago...now I can't the only thing happened was, about 6 month ago my powersuply was fried.. seemed like nothing happened to the computer.. I just changed the powersuply...
is it possible that... the video card is ok.. but the capturing part of the card is fried????????????

any other adive? anything I might be doing wrong?

Have you reseated the card? Is this an AGP card? What about AGP drivers?

Somewhere in the back of my mind I remember that this used to be a common error message. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the cure for it was but I know it was something pretty simple.

Here are a couple of choices:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283865

    http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t22500.html

Interesting that the second one mentions DirectX because something in the back of my mind kept saying DirectX but I was ignoring it!

AGP drivers are usually on the motherboard CD.

The video card driver and Catalyst are two seperate entities.

First you will need to clean out any old installs. Then install the driver. Then install Catalyst.

The Titan TV component is part of Catalyst and that is what has gone smoke for you to get the TV application failed to initialize message (I've seen it a few times myself!). Usually you can just reinstall the Titan TV application to get around this but as you have now started messing with the driver and Catalyst a full reinstall will be required.

You can get the latest at:

    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/aiwradeonx-xp

Older versions of drivers and Catalyst are available at:

    http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/aiwradeonxprevious-xp.html

An older version may prove more stable. My advise is to start with earlier versions and move up from there as the install program will find any newer versions on your computer and install them instead. Going backwards with this software can be very frustrating. The only way around this (that I have found) is to manually search and destroy the newer versions hidden in temp files.

    One more recommendation:

    If you go to:

    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/aiwradeonxip-xp

you can download the 4 components seperately:
    - Driver
    - Catalyst Control Centre
    - WDM Integrated Driver
    - ATI Multimedia Software

Use the ATI uninstall tool first. Then install each component seperately and in the order listed (important!). Reboot your computer after installing each component.

You people give up too quickly. Video requires patience, and that includes the hardware, which is a wee bit more complex than normal stuff.

I use this technology almost everyday and have been using AIW's continuously since 1999. Over the years I have had my share of problems with it, usually with the Titan TV application going flakey, but nothing that has involved days to fix or having to reload system AGP drivers or reseat the video card. Usually I can just reload the application that has "broken" and get on with it. Sometimes a reinstall is necessary.

"You people"? hmmm, where have we heard that before...

Same problem here, same message, but I fixed it by reloading the driver, then telling Update not to install that particular ATI update. I'm using 6.2 video drivers and 9.06.1 MMC. I assume the update works with more recent versions, not mine.

Incidentally, the FM wasn't affected by the unwanted update.

Congrats for having the patience and keen skill of observation, which helped you solve this problem. This is what it takes to work well with media (including design, video and photo). Quick and easy yields something that looks like it was quick and easy.

That said, I wish everybody luck.
Just stay at it, it will come. I do it all the time, and in the end I come through. You can too.
Then again, I make my living doing things others gave up on.
