you might need to install a mp3 codec. look for lame in the tools section on the left.

I believe you have to right click and install the dll file, not the txt file highlighted above. You may also need to uninstall/reinstall Goldwave after getting Lame properly installed, but I don't remember having to do that.

Try using the lameACM.zip file instead of the rar file.

I set XP up to act like Windows 98 and Windows 2000 because XP sucks. You'll need to use an unzip program like Winzip because XP's unzip program sucks also.

Here is how my lame folder looks using lameACM.zip.

From the icons in the OPs post, it looks like he is using WinRAR, NOT the built-in XP app. And in my experience, whichever compression app you use will typically work or not. I've never had one unzip and the files in some unusable way. Typically, you will open a known good file and it will appear empty...at least in my experience.

By the way, I like your install graphic.

Use AVI-Mux GUI or something for removing the WAV header from the mp3 file.

Just open the AVI in Goldwave. No need to extract a wave file (or mp3 file). If you have the Lame codec installed as GSpot states then Goldwave should open the audio in the AVI.

If all you need to do is increase the volume then open the file in Virtualdub and under Audio > choose Full Processing Mode and choose Volume > put a checkmark in the "Adjust volume of audio channels" box, raise the slider and click OK (test the volume with the output arrow). Under Audio Compression > choose the Lame codec and pick 128kbps CBR. Under Video > choose Direct stream copy and save new AVI.
