I can't figure out how to use the thing.

I was able to load the video file, but there don't seem to be any controls to select a substitute audio file to replace the original, which is what my original post was asking about.

I've tried/clicked everything that looked like it might be it, and came up with nothing. Also, the help feature keeps trying to go online. I only have dial-up, and am trying to avoid tying up my phone for any length of time.

Can anyone give me a short answer on what to do to replace the audio on the existing video file with different audio? That's all I'm looking to do. I've got VDM now, but can't see how it lets you do this.

    Thanks.

Should be able to be done by going to the "Streams" menu and selecting "Streams List" and go from there.

Also, the Help files should have been installed locally, it just uses your browser to display them.

With VirtualDub Mod, open your video. Then go the 'Streams>Stream list'. L click on your audio file and then select 'Disable' to the lower right.

Then L click 'Add' at the top, select your new audio track, open it, then OK and you are done. I find VDM easier to use for audio work than the regular VD.

What could be easier than Audio > Audio from other file? With the right plugins and codecs, you can insert 5.1 wave files, 5.1 MP3 files or 5.1 AC3 files and direct stream copy. I haven't tried other formats. With the plugins, Virtualdub can open files that VDM can't without the help of an Avisynth script which means recoding the clip. It can also use the curve editor and Smart Render to edit a file and add filters without having to recode the whole clip which VDM cannot do.

I'm always slow to change so I can see peoples' reluctance to move from VirtualDubMod to the new Virtualdub but even I've finally switched from Windows 2000 to XP. I'll probably wait 6 or 7 years before switching operating systems again. Maybe my fears of Vista will be gone by then or they'll have something better. I didn't get ME so I may skip Vista alltogether.
