    Hi guys ..
I have a fire wire .. and I used it to capture from a camera 2 months ago .. it was working great ..
But now it wouldn't work with programs like windows movie maker ..
When I tried WinDV it worked .. so the problem is that the firewire is working alright .. but the part the manage controlling the camera isn't working ( FF , and REW , etc ) .. for some reason .. because WinDV doesn't use this ability .. ( I knew all of that by your help ,, thanks )

So .. how can I fix this problem .. because its really hard to capture without controlling .. you know .. no auto stop capturing .. etc ..
and what is causing this problem .. could it be that the fire wire PCI card is corrupted .. ( i can capture but no controlling the camera ) ??

    & thanks ..

WinDV can control the camera, but there have been problems reported when that capability is used. The checkbox in the middle of the WinDV screen is what activates camera control. Give it a try and see if you experience problems. I personally don't find it difficult to press "Play" to start the palyback, and "Stop" when it's done, so I've never really tried the camera control. I doubt your problem is the firewire card, unless your having lots of difficulties with lost frames or other symptoms.

Hi .. well I'll try to control using WinDV ..
and about the controls .. here's the thing .. I usually set the PC to capture when I'm not using it ( if I'm out or asleep ) so I wouldn't be able to stop it manually
but if I couldn't find a solution .. I will have to set it manually..

    thanks alot ..

You can use the command line option to specify a duration to record for, get it started and walk away.
