    Hey guys,
As the subject says, my LG LDA-831 DVD player seems to have problems with DVD+R DL media. It tries to read the disc, but I always get a "disc error" message and it spits the disc out. Now I love this player as it plays all other +/- media thrown at it, as well as data files (AVI, Xvid, etc.). Anyone aware of why there may be a problem with the DL media? I usually burn through Nero, if that's an issue I don't know. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    - If homemade (not a backup of a retail), it might be authored poorly
    - Possibly bad layer break in burning app (use ImgBurn and nothing else)
    - Not booktyped to DVD-ROM (must have cooperative burner that does it automatically OR can be set manually, or both)
    - Cheap disc (not Verbatim)

Thanks for the suggestions LS. In this case, it's with both homemade and back-ups. So far, I've only used Verbatim discs, so it must be one of the other two things. I'll have to give it a closer look.

Look on the LG website to update your firmware.

This seems to be an issue with the player itself. I sent an e-mail to LG support but who knows if I'll ever get a reply.

It's good that you are using Verbatim DL media. At least currently, other brands of DL media aren't dependable. You should consider buying a newer burner such as a Pioneer 112 or 115. Older burners just don't seem to handle DL very well. It's also important to use ImgBurn. It is the best way to make sure that the DVD structure is correct. All of these things go together to insure the best results.
