Hello! I am trying to split an avi. movie into 2 so i can fit them and burn them as 2 cds vcd. I use VirtualdubMod 1.5.10.2 for editing. The problem is that theres an error everytime i open the file:
Virtualdub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file (audio stream 1). The current preferenceis to rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatability. This may introduce up to 183552 ms of skew in the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 120.2 +, - 24.0 kbps)
Do you sill want to reewrite the header? YES NO
Every time its shows up i just click yes, the problem is the audio is not in sync with the video, i try to ignore that but everytime I save half of the video it uses up to 10 gigs of memory. I still sont know what the output file is because I always abort the saving process.
How can I make the audio in sync with the video and also why does it eats up 10 gigs of memory. (the original movie is just 700 mb)

1) Avoid VBR mp3 AVI files.
2) Configure the output codec to suit your needs, or set both audio + video to direct stream copy.
AviDemux handles VBR audio AVI better.

Tnx for the reply, that was fast!
1. I dont have any other copy of the movie, i just downloaded it in limewire and it took me 8 hours to complete
2. How can I configure the output codec?How can I set both audio + video to direct stream copy.
Sorry for the stupid questions, Im just a newbie. -
To avoid out-of-sync audio with VirtualDubMod and VBR MP3 files answer NO when it asks the question. This works most of the time. Or use VirtualDub 1.8.0 which handles VBR audio better.

The sound is probably there. AviDemux simply doesn't play it.
Use the A/B markers to mark the start and end of what you want to save. Then press the Save icon to save that section. Note that AviDemux doesn't automatically add filename extensions so you have to type them in yourself. That is, type OUTPUT.AVI, not just OUTPUT. -
I tried using virtualdub like youve suggested and the audio is now in sync with the video, the problem is when i try to save it, it eats up 10 gigs of memory

how about the audio? The output file has a size of more than 700 mb audio is 500 mb

I'm not sure what you're saying. With both audio and video in Direct Stream Copy mode (audio defaults to Direct Stream Copy) the output size should be almost exactly the same size as the source. If you're splitting a file into two pieces the sum of the two should be almost exactly the size of the source.
VirtualDub:
1) File -> Open Video File (open SOURCE.AVI)
2) Video -> Direct Stream Copy
3) Set mark-in and mark-out points (mark first half)
4) File -> Save as AVI -> PART1.AVI
5) Set mark-in and mark-out points (mark second half)
6) File -> Save as AVI -> PART2.AVI
PART1.AVI + PART2.AVI ~= SOURCE.AVI -
I followed your instructions, but the audio is not in sync with the video
