I don't know if anyone makes a long lasting VCR anymore, they all seem pretty cheaply made, but I like the JVC HR-S5902U or S5912U (same machine just different color). I've had mine for a couple years and it still works fine, haven't used it that much though. I tried several brands/models when I was looking and that one worked best for me, even better than the more expensive JVC 9911 and SRV10U.

I'm also looking for an under $150 S-VHS VCR to hook up to my EyeTV200 to pour vids into my MacIntosh. I have a stock consumer panasonic that uses composite, but I know I can can get some slightly better images from my VHS tapes with a S-VHS machine. I just need to buy on a budget. I can't seem to find much new these days.

    Any recommendations appreciated.

Try looking for some on eBay if you like. You can get a great deal on used gear if you are smart about it. I picked up a Pro Line Panasonic S-VHS 1970 and a professional rack mount DPS Personal TBC IV ES-2200T both for under 200 bucks combined. Caveat Emptor.

    Cheers,

I was looking for a new VCR back before Christmas as a gift and I must say, I could not find a VCR in the 100 to 200 dollar range here in the US.

JVC (best) and Panasonic machines (2nd best) can be found under $150. Keep looking, give it a few weeks of daily searching online (mostly eBay).

  7. I certainly wouldn't rule out a Mitsubishi U80 or U82 if it comes up.

How does the Mitsubishi HS-U82 S-VHS compare to the Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U D-VHS for transferring reg. VHS tapes to my computer? Does the U82 have the same filtering, etc.?
