  1. Anyone here using this mobo?

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24506&vpn=ConRoe1333-D667&manufacture=ASRock

The price seems to be too good to be true. The fact it supports fsb of 1333 and Dual Core 2 Extremes is nice.

Right now my budget could afford a Pentium E2180 or similar. I'd also pickup two 1 gig sticks of DDR2 ram. However down the road I could then pickup an E6xxx series.

Basically I'm an AMD X2 4200 fan and have 4 computers as listed.

AMD 64 X2 4200 (Win Xp) MSI mobo 3 gb DDR
AMD XP 2500 (OpenSuse 10)MSI mobo 1.5 gb DDR
AMD 1800 (Win 2003) MSI mobo 1 gb DDR
Celeron 2.93 (Win Xp)MachSpeed (Biostar variant) 768mb SDRAM

My AMD 1800 and AMD 2500 are file/print servers. The Celeron is for video editing, the X2 4200 for photo editing and 3D rendering.

I would be dumping the AMD 1800 with this setup and deploy this as my video editing pc, and demoting the Celeron to be the Win2003 server.

    Thoughts or opinions?

I installed a similar ASROCK mobo back in Sept for a client. Works great. No problems. They're not overclockers, but I don't overclock anyway. Only 2 slots for RAM, so going above 2GB can get expensive.

You should look at the E4500 Dual Core chip. Not too expensive at all and pretty peppy.

  3. Is the performance for the E4500 much over the E2180?

Yes only two DDR2 slots kind of bothers me but the price is right,

    Cheers

  4. People seem to like it:

FWIW: Fry's is advertising a E2180 CPU with an ECS 945GCT-M motherboard for $88.99 today.

Sorry but I checked and re-checked their site and I can't find this combo you mention. Can you provide a direct link?

    Thanks kindly...

FRY'S doesn't list mobo combos on their website. Here's a link for that E2180 combo.

I don't even live in California but I found a link for the San Jose Mercury Online Newspaper so I could view FRY's newspaper ads.

    I'm assuming you're looking for a mobo w/intel c2d processor. Here's my suggestions:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard, $99.99

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard, $126.99

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128050

I have both of those mobo's which haven't given me any problems. I have a c2d E2160 w/the GA-P35-DS3L which is currently overclocked to 2.4ghz using stock hsf. It can go up to 3.00ghz as well but I'm going to be using a aftermarket hsf at a later time. The E6400 uses the GA-P35-DSR3R mobo which is currently overclocked to 2.6ghz. IMHO you can't go wrong with either of those mobo's since it can be upgraded to another faster processor.

Could also be impossible, I have one of their corssover boards and it does not support more than 2GB.

As far as performance its solid. They do have OC ing settings but I haven't tried it, not really me but its solid. I run my computer pretty much 24x7 and I am not worried.

The price doesn't seem anything special, this isn't a super bells and whistles board but its no cheap crap board either.
