  1. hi together...

    i hope you can help...

i upgraded to windows vista, also because of the media center but
the media center means nothing to me when i´m not able to watch my
ripped dvds with it. that brings me to the question...

is it possible to have dvd-rips working with the windows media player???
    maybe some codec or plug-in?

if not can you recommend any good media center software
(i just want to use it for pictures, videos & dvd-rips, no tv-functions)

    thank you very much!

    yours, slim

If you have Vista Home Premium, you shouldn't have any problem playing ripped or commercial DVDs, either in Media Center or WMP. I play them all the time. One of my Vista computers I use for that was a recent Vista install, and I haven't added any other players.

Vista Home Premium has a MPEG-2 codec with the OS. Other versions of Vista may not. But you should be able to install a MPEG-2 codec if needed.

    And welcome to our forums.

VLC is free and will play dvd's from disc or hard drive.

Depends on your definition of "ripped" dvd's. If they are in folders (Video_TS & Audio_TS) or ISO's, then I don't believe WMP will add them. I believe it only recognizes individual files (mp3, mpg, avi, wmv, etc.).

You probably have to do that with a playlist, similar to WMP. I found a program for this that may work with Vista Media center. But it'll have to wait till tonight to get back to my Vista computer to try it.

I found it here: http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/community/mce-applications-development-support/5663-ne...st-editor.html But you have to sign up to their forum before downloading (Free). Nice site, though.

You're welcome. I came upon the site by a search and there's a lot of information about Media Center there. Very friendly site also.
