PLEASE HELP!!! I'm so frustrated! I have this new computer (HP with windows 7) and have bought it purposely for burning DVDs. However, one the burning process is complete and I go to watch them, the picture is perfect, but there is no sound! I have made a couple previously which worked ok, but now it seems every one I try to do comes out like that. When I play the same video on my computer, the audio works just fine. I'm using the 'windows dvd maker' program which came pre=installed. What could I be doing wrong?
Also, I purchased DVD+R discs, with an understanding that if needed, I would be able to re-write them, but after I format the discs which have burnt without the audio (which is what I think you have to do to erase a disc, please correct me if I am wrong!) and I then go to re-use the, an error message comes up telling me that the disc I have inserted is not a blank one. Help please... anybody..? Thanks!

What do you rip with? Windows dvd maker can't rip. Or are you making dvds from avi/mkv/mp4/etc files?

You can't re-write DVD+R or DVD-R discs. You need RW discs for that.
To clarify, you create your DVD in Windows DVD Maker, and when you play it back on your PC it is OK, but when you play it back in a DVD player it has no audio ?
Or has the audio suddenly stopped playing on your computer ?
Are you using Windows media Player or something else ? If not something else, try VLC or Media Player Classic Home Cinema and see what happens.
What is your source ?
What does mediainfo say about the VOB files on the DVD you created ?
You could also try AVStoDVD or DVD Flick instead, as these will encode and author a DVD. Burn with Imgburn to create your DVD Video disc.Read my blog here.

Thank you very much for your replies. I have downloaded certain files from bittorent, and also downloaded Divx to watch them. I have already gathered that Divx files cannot be burned through the windows DVD maker, so I try to look for files which can be watched on Windows media player instead. I tried to burn the files on windows media player first, but although the DVD burned, it did not play back on my DVD player, an error message came up. I'm not sure what kind of file the movies are, I know how to use computers but not the technical stuff! All I know is that mp4 files don't work on my dvd player either. My computer came preloaded with cyberlink power DVD9 and DVd suite. I have managed to burn a disk using one of those programs, with which the audio works fine, but whereas with windows DVD maker, my films fit on my DVD disks, on cyberlink, the same film exceeds the disk size. Maybe there is a way to compress the movie? Also, the downloaded film plays fine (with audio) on windows media player, but once the disk is burned and I try to watch it on my dvd player, there is no sound. the same disk plays without sound if I try to watch it on my computer also. Is there a way to fix this? I have tried to play about with the settings, but cannot manage to fix it... I have previously burned a couple which worked, so that's why I don't understand why it's not working now. I have now downloaded Nerolite. Will that help?
Also, my DVD disks say DVD+R and under in small writing says RW... I thought those were the rewritable ones, no?>
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your time and help! -
Moving you to our video conversion section as this is not dvd ripping.
Just use dvd flick, avstodvd or convertxtodvd instead. They are better for avi divx files. Or get a cheap dvd player with divx support. -
Oh, I thought it was ripping, I gess it's just burning then lol. Thank you very much for your reply. I will download one of those programs instead. Thank you

You'd have to post a picture for us to be sure, but DVD+RW should say DVD+RW. Not sure without a photo what the small "RW" means.
You should not have to format DVD+R prior to use.
Use ImgBurn (it's freeware) for burning for best results. And I recommend not doing multisession burns as few players can see all the sessions. Just burn everything at one time for best results. Use "disc at once" mode if you don't use ImgBurn and your burning program gives you a choice between that and "track at once". -
Oh, ok, never mind, thanks for that. By the way, in the video converter, what should I choose for output format? There are so many... Should I choose DVD MPEG 2ps format?
