I wondered if anyone around could possibly help.

I've had DVDs authored & burnt on Nero after creating it on Adobe Premiere successfully in the past.

However, this time, I've created 1 hr. 27 min of video (3.35GB) that I'm trying to burn on blank Samsung DVD+R 8x & when playing it on my stand alone Sony DVD Player, it shows the menu & I can highlight through different chapters, but when pressing Enter/Play to play that chapter, it freezes & remains on Menu screen without starting the movie up, at all.

When it freezes, I press "Top Menu" button on my DVD player's remote & then can again go through highlightening different chapters but again it does exacly the same. At times though, while fiddling, it starts to work, all of a sudden, but ONLY chapter 3. I can't jump back to previous chapter with the hope of seeing movie from start.

I'd been creating DVDs movie on Adobe Premiere, authoring/burning it on DVD using Nero & playing it on the same Sony DVD player, as I'd been in the past, but this time, I wondered what's wrong.

In Nero, I tried changing setting, so it should start movie within 15 seconds automatically, without having to select any chapter, but it does the same. I've 5 chapters created in this movie.

I tried burning the movie on 2 different DVD format (DVD-RW along with DVD-R) and it does the same.

I tried playing it in PowerDVD on my computer & it works perfectly OK. How could all of a sudden my Sony DVD player fails to play successfully as it'd been in the past.

    Can anyone please help?

Before burning onto DVD, try opening the files or iso in a program such as PowerDVD on your PC and test to ensure the menus are working correctly. Quite often, you can catch the problems before burning and wasting discs.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it works perfectly OK on my PC using the PowerDVD, as I said in my last post, but don't know whether there's a problem with DVD player itself OR just the way I'm burning it.

You made and burned movies before, try to play those on you player. If they work, than player is most likely OK. Check what brand they were burned on and see if it is different, to get the same for your new movie.
Even if it is the same brand, it is quite possible that this batch of Samsung DVD is not good.
Try to get different brand to burn on. I would recommend to get Verbatim.
Computer drive will play almost anything, because the way it process the data.

Samsung is not a good media, period. Never has been.

Nero does not burn DVD-Video correctly, it never has. Use ImgBurn, it's free, and it burns compliant DVD-Video structure. So does RecordNow, if you have it (payware).

Nero is also not the best authoring software.

Nero is pretty much not worth using, unless it's for Audio-CD or data files on a disc.

In my opinion your SONY player conflicts in its interpretation of the DVD-Video standard from NeroVision (which I assume you have used to author).

    PowerDVD has no such conflict.

    Try another authoring program.

It is unlikely that the burn with Nero causes this problem, although it can cause others.

I would not be so critical about Nero. I use it to burn about 90% of my single layer DVD (DVD DL is different story) and newer had problem playing them.
I would not defend it for authoring, because it is too simple, template based, to do anything I like.

I apologize. I missed that part.

Try to test the DVD with VLC or MPC....

Sometimes PowerDVD does some strange things

VLC and MPC works more like a normal DVD Player..

Except you are missing the point. The DVD works in PowerDVD, but it DOESN'T in his DVD player. As pointed out above, PowerDVD is likely less strict about DVD structure. Using other PC based apps will not help fix the playback issue on the standalone dvd player.

Also, as pointed out above, this is likely a result of using Nero for authoring. Nero works fine for burning discs (it is a burning app after all), every other function it tries to perform is pretty much hit or miss and it often doesn't follow standards.

    Correct....

But how do he check that he have got a correct DVD structure ????

By.... using VLC or MPC instead of PowerDVD

The problem isnt solved but he as to use a good referens tool that can
show him if he have solved the problem or not.

Nero does not burn compliant to the DVD-Video spec. This easily leads to problems playing discs. That's the primary reason I quit using it early on (5.5.10.x days) for Prassi-based software (Prassi PrimoDVD, RecordNow), and thankfully ImgBurn is here now. Nero 6 and 7 are still incorrect to the specs.
