  1. I have 4 avi files (a total of 3.5G in size) and in theory my Philips DVP5982 dvd player should play these files as avi on a dvd data disc. But can't figure out how to burn a dvd data disc with Nero 7 after making half a dozen of coasters. Please help out a newbie here. Many thanks in advance!!

What settings have you tried? UDF, ISO or UDF/ISO?

And try on a dvd-rw media.

I'd try IMGBURN - it works better than Nero once you get the hang of it.

  4. I tired every format practically and you might be right about the dvd-rw thing since the NEC burner won't simulate (wrong type of disc error message).

Does the Philips player even recognize the disc with the AVIs (in other words, do you get a directory listing in the player)? Is it simply not playing the AVI files when you select them?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  6. Took Baldrick's advise and switched to a dvd-rw disc and it burned and played on the Philips DVP5982 dvd player!! Thanks, Baldrick!
So I did a search online and indeed found some info on incompatibility issue between a NEC ND-6450A dvd burner (came in my hp laptop) and TDK dvd+r disc. Now I am burning with a Taiyo Yuden dvd-r disc and is going smoothly (antoher 40% to go) and I have a good feeling that it will work.
Many thanks to all you have chimed in, especially to Baldrick.
