I have always gotten huge .avi files when saving to an avi file from a VOB file. Someone suggested saving as Direct Stream copy to control size of file, but when I tried, I got an error that my file (a non-copyrighted VOB file) and says
The source video stream uses a compression algorithm which is not compatible with avi files.
How else can I use this? or another way to make the files smaller? I've been loading it into Vegas and resaving it as NTSC DVD for a smaller file.

Choose a codec under Video - Compression. You have been saving as uncompressed AVI and that is indeed huge. In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
