  1. I have always gotten huge .avi files when saving to an avi file from a VOB file. Someone suggested saving as Direct Stream copy to control size of file, but when I tried, I got an error that my file (a non-copyrighted VOB file) and says
    The source video stream uses a compression algorithm which is not compatible with avi files.

    How else can I use this? or another way to make the files smaller? I've been loading it into Vegas and resaving it as NTSC DVD for a smaller file.

    Choose a codec under Video - Compression. You have been saving as uncompressed AVI and that is indeed huge.
    In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

    And you can only use Direct Stream Copy for avi files, not VOB/MPG files. If you want to cut VOB/MPG use something else like Videoredo and you don't have to reconvert.
