Officemax sale this week 100 Verbatim DVD 16X +/- for $25. BUT, I was only able to find ONE cakebox made in Taiwan. Needless to say, I did not buy ANY of the MADE IN INDIA. Until I hear good news from LORD SMURF about why Verbatim keeps moving to cheaper and more questionable locations, I shall only buy TAIYO-YUDEN from RIMA!!!

The top reason is high production demands, for the better manufacturers/brands. You can only make so much of a product at one facility. Cost cutting is next. The Singapore facility is the main one, owned and operated by MCC, and I imagine it's busy with DVD-R DL and maybe HD discs.

All the new label Verbatims I've found so far in Canada say "Made In Taiwan". I just checked the 25 packs at Staples (Canada) and they are all labeled as MIT. Haven't seen any India brand discs at all (yet)...

Future Shop sells Memorex 16X made in India. Dirt cheap for DVD media...but they make expensive coasters. I've got 100 coasters for sale if anyone is interested...I would never buy made in India again. They were so cheap I thought I would try them and see what hits. Every single disk would burn fine but lock up on playback at 26 minutes. Data disks would just crap out trying to read. I have had great luck with disks and have had practically no coasters in 3 years...up until those made in India's. Never again. Flashed my drive. Tried everything. Went back to my tried and true after that batch with no problems.

My comments are based on the purchase of one 50 count cakebox of MII Verbatim 16x DVD+R MCC 004. These discs passed all TRT's fine and never failed to read or playback on all drives tested. Burns were made on a PIO 111L, Samsung S182D. Benq 1650, LG H10N and a H22N. The main difference I observed was that they did not scan nearly as PRETTY as their MIT counterparts. PIE/PIF levels were considerably higher but as I stated earlier - no playback issues. Our European members have been getting and using these for quite sometime now without too many complaints. I'd prefer and buy MIT Verbatim when given the choice but I'm not convinced yet that we have any worries using this media. YMMV - good luck.

I have been burning lately with the Verbatim 16x media made in India at 8x burning speed, and no coasters at all, more than 50 excellent burns so far and counting.
Maybe they just keep the quality standards no matter the country. -
My experience is with Verbatim DVD+R DL (95310). Until recently all I bought were made in Singapore, then the made in India kind appeared when I ordered from Rima in August. I ordered some subsequently from MicroCenter and they were mixed, but most of the 20-disc packs were made in India. I've asked around and Rima says they only stock the made in India kind. Meritline said they have made in Singapore discs, but I didn't ask if I could stipulate that requirement with an order. Supermediastore didn't respond to my query. I also queried Verbatim about it and they haven't responded either.
I had burned about 180 of the made in Singapore discs with only 1 coaster. I've now gone through my first 20-pack of the made in India kind and got 3 bona fide coasters.Plus one of the discs has some serious scratches near the outer edge and I haven't tried to burn it.
It might work with a 6-7G burn. The coasters all had visible blemishes (looks like a small water spot) on the burn surface about midway between the hub and outer edge, so it's fairly easy to predict. If the disc has an obvious blemish it probably won't burn. The blemishes won't wash off, they're embedded in the disc. So far the discs that would burn OK, play OK on my computer drives, and standalone Coby DVD-755 player.
I've noticed a peculiarity with the layer break (probably) on the made in India discs when burning with my LG GSA-H55N. The LG stops burning completely near the 50% point (burn rate falls to zero), about where the layer break would be, then after a few seconds resumes the burn. So far those burnt discs play OK, but it is cause for worry. Maybe it's a peculiarity related to the LG. It hasn't happened with my Lite-On LH-20A1P, that I noticed, but I usually burn with the LG. -
All the verbatim dvd-r single layer i've seen recently in the uk have been labelled made in japan.
I dont know if you can order from the uk or even if the mij discs are any good but i thought i'd pass
on the info anyway. Hope this can be of help to you.
P.S. I just remembered the dual layers i saw were also mij, it was pc world and staples i saw the discswake up this planet is dying! -
I finally purchased the 50-pak Verbatim DVD+R DL from Sam's for $69.99 and, have burned about 6 disks so far with 2 coasters. They are the MII flavor, of course. I have been using the Verbatim DL 20-pak (2.4x) from MicroCenter for some time and have never had an issue. I noticed on the two burns that failed (I burned withDVD Decrypter on these) that I got some kind of power error concerning the drive (I'll capture a screenshot the next time it happens). I was able to cancel past the error and Decrypter went ahead with the burn. With the first failed disk the burn completed, but the disk was unplayable. With the second failed disk, I got a read error during the course of the burn (I'll capture a screen shot of this as well) and had to abort.
Yesterday, I went to MicroCenter to see what flavor the DL 20-paks were that I've been traditionally experiencing no problems with. I've never bothered to pay attention to whether these disks were MIS or MII in the past. Well, to my surprise, every single Verbatim DVD+R DL 20-pak was MII! But since I never paid attention to it, I had no way of knowing if this had been the case all along. As I was standing there, a stock-boy for Microcenter came over to place some 8x DVD+R DL to the shelves. It was a 15-pak and upon closer scrutiny, I saw that these were MIS! So there might be something to what someone said earlier about the newer stuff being made at the Singapore facility. I don't know, but -- like so many have said various times in the Star Wars movies: "I've got a bad feeling about this..."
I'm saving all my duds from the 50-pak from Sam's so I can take advantage of the warranty from Verbatim. Thoughts please... -

Does anyone have experience returning defective Verbatim DVD+R DL made in India to Verbatim for replacement under their Lifetime Warranty? I'm curious how that process goes. Do they replace them easily or make you jump through interminable hoops?
I'm experiencing about 10-15% coasters with the made in India discs, versus less than 1% with the made in Singapore variety. I expect to accumulate a spindle of 20 defective discs for return to Verbatim by the end of the year. -
Just bought 200 Verbatim +Rs from Futureshop and they are still the old label "Made In Taiwan". I checked Staples (Canada) and they only have MIT as well. No Indian made discs here at all....
-
I'm wondering the same thing, JohnnyBob. I e-mailed Verbatim customer service a few days ago asking this, but haven't gotten anything back. So far I've only got 3 coasters out of about 14. As long as Verbatim's policy is to replace duds, I won't get upset about the duds I make. But if there's any BS, I'm going to be pissed. $70 is a lot of scratch to spend on some crap.

Here is something I found online from Verbatim regarding warranty items. See the section titled "Return Procedure."

No made in India Verbatim at Futureshop,Best Buy,Staples or any of the indie computer stores here in Toronto. Considering the feedback so far, I hope we only get the Taiwanese discs for sometime to come.

It could be worse. There is a thread over at CDFreaks.com that says Verbatim branded RitekF1 is starting to show up in stores in Central and South America (Mexico and Chile to be specific). All indications are that these are genuine and not some hoax. Verbatim obviously is making moves to meet it's global demands. My only hope is that they distinguish media of a non-MCC media code by another marketing line - like the pearl white Verbatim line that you find in Europe.

Sorry, I was referring to Mexico as Central and of course Chile as South. Geography is not my forte obviously.
Here's the thread link for those interested:

I can not say that I have had any problems burning the "made in India" discs, but Just the other day I tried to make copies of two of those discs for a friend and I got read errors at the end of each disc. I burned these discs a couple of moths ago and since then they have been stored in a sycase padded dvd binder. I have not used them since I verified the data on them. This is a problem I have never had before when it comes to Verbatim discs so it is my belife that the "made in India" discs are substandard and not as good as other discs from Verbatim.
By the way these discs are of the "glossy printable" kind of DVD-R. -

OK, I've just gotten through my first 50 pack of the MII Verbatim DVD+R DL and I have to say that the results were very disappointing. Overall, I ended up with about 15 coasters. All the ones that failed gave me this error:
[/img]T:\DVD Decrypter Error (Verbatim DVD+R DL (India)).JPG[img]https://forum.videohelp.com/images/guides/p1765735/
The error ocurred about 65 seconds or so after burn-start and happened while DVD Decrypter was trying to set the L0 data zone capacity. On some attempts, I was able to press 'Retry' a few times and the burn to go, but most of the time time it would just keeping coming back with the same error. Only a few that I was able to retry went on to produce a successful burn. The others errored out during playback test on my set-top DVD. The last 10 or 11 blanks of the stack were all duds. As dumb as it sounds, I went out and laid down another 70 bucks for a second spindle from Sam's and the first two burns went successfully. So we'll see.
I've been saving the duds in order to get warranty replacements from Verbatim, but it hasn't exactly been the easiest feat in the world to get in touch with them. They never replied to my e-mail and their warranty department always sends you to voicemail. I've seen the question asked before, but never saw a response. Has anyone had any success getting warranty replacements from Verbatim?[/img] -
Just thought I'd rant about my experience with MII Verbatim DVD+R DL. I just received 5 20pk spindles from www.supermediastore.com, all MII. Of the first 36 discs I've burned, I've gotten 11 coasters. This compares to the previous ~400 Singapore DVD+/-R discs I've burned over the last two years with only one coaster that I can recall. Drives are Lite-On LH-201AS and Plextore PX-760's, all with up-to-date firmware.
I'm one of those people who frequents cdfreaks, videohelp, afterdawn, etc. only when I'm thinking of buying new drives or am having some kind of problem. Thus, I had no clue that Verbatim was using companies other than MCC to make their DL media. Even tho they've been doing it for the better part of this year, I only now ran out of my previous stock of discs ordered summer '06. Blah, blah, blah, rant, rant, rant. Thanx for being my shrink.
I noticed that Best Buy has Verbatim DVD+R DL on sale this week. A 95310 20pk bundle is going for $29.99. I Plan on checking the stores in the area to see if I can find some Singapore discs. Wish me luck. -

By the way, bought two 50 DVD-R Verbatim spindles made in India, they`re from the new package line, a blue/violet with orange one, the code is "MCC 03RG20", the last MII Verbatims were "MCC 004"
-
MCC004 is a DVD+R code.
