Hi all-
I seem to have an ongoing problem when attempting to backup large DVDs. For example, I have several DVDs with TV shows on them (Mission Impossible for example). If the DVD has just two episodes on it, I pop it in the PC and it opens right up. If the DVD has 4 episodes on it (3hr 32min.) my Plextor 716a won't open it. I just get a continuous flashing orange light stopping me cold. This only seems happens on the 3hr+ discs. has anyone else had this problem or am I just imagining this whole thing :>)
Thanks,
Mark

Give us some more details...
What DVD Authoring software are you using? What DVD media type are you using? DVD-5, DVD-9? What kind of source file? What compression rate are you using for 4+ episodes?
My best guess for your Plextor LED to flash and not respond is likely Media type is bad or your Drive is bad. -
Are you asking about Windows Explorer not being able to open the DVD disc? In other words, you haven't been able to open or play the DVD with your computer? And you're not asking about opening it in your back up programs? In other words, ripping it to your hard drive?
Either way, that's sounds like more of a Windows or software problem, unless the discs you are trying to back up aren't commercial discs. If they're not commercial pressed discs, as mentioned, it could be a disc problem.
But it doesn't sound like a problem with the drive. At least not for just opening the disc.
And it would be very helpful to tell us the software and procedures you are using.
