My network cameras and other networking hardware keeps instructing me to select different port numbers for various items, for security reasons. How do I know that a number I choose is not crucial for some other process or hardware?

For example I read somewhere that you can only use even numbers for some things - could be a bit of a gotchya there!

    Thanks for any help!
