I have a Philips DVP5960 DVD player, which can play DivX 4, DivX 5, DivX 6, DivX Ultra, MPEG1 and MPEG 2 in addition to DVDs. I have several 640x480 resolution wmv files that I want to convert so that I can run them on the TV. Which of these formats will give me the best TV display results? This DVD rookie knows absolutely nothing about DivX. I am running Xandros 4 Linux and Windows XP, so I can use just about any program to do the conversion, and I have found several good possibilities by searching the How To Guides. I am just not sure which format I want to use.

I would use Dr Divx, convert them to Divx6 at 640 x 480 at whatever seems to be a fair bitrate. Can't more specific without knowing more about the actual videos in question.

If they are DRM protected them you will have to strip the DRM from them first.

    Aspect Ratio - 1.34:1
    Audio Codec - WMA 9.1, 96kbps, 44KHz Stereo (A/V), 2-pass CBR
Video Codec - WMV 9 Professional

Use Constant Quality with a setting of 3 and see how big the files are. This should preserve pretty close to the original image quality.
