  1. My burner is an LG GSA-4040B. For some reason it only burns dvd's at 2X instead of 4x. I recently updated the firmware but I still can't burn at 4X. Nero infotool gives the following information:

    Under the drive tab
    Drive read speed: 8x
    Drive write speed: 2x

    Under the disc tab
    Supported speed: 2x

Ok, perhaps the ritek G05 discs I'm using don't work well with this drive even though the discs say 8X on them. I haven't actually tried any other dvd discs. But my question is this: Why does the DRIVE write speed claim only 2X? I mean it's a 4x burner. Is it possible there's something wrong with the drive?
Btw I have the drive installed as master on the secondary IDE bus as per the firmware update instructions.

There are a number of forum reviews on this page https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters/lg-gca-4040n/94

"Crap" seems to be the operative term used. Older drives often have a problem with newer media. Good burners such as the Pioneer 112 cost well under forty dollars. It's not worth messing around with a drive like this. My standard advise is; Invite a few friends over and say a few kind words of remembrance over your pathetic LG burner and bury it and take it - and you out of its misery.

It's not helping at all that you are using Ritek discs, which are crap. Do yourself a favor and look at:

We had another post today I think from a guy who was crying because his Ritek DVDs are now going bad. So the combo of poor discs and an old, crummy DVD burner are to blame.

  4. alright thanks.
I guess I'll just try another brand of DVD's, if that still doesn't work then i'll get a new drive. 25 minutes for a DVD to burn is unacceptable in this day and age.
