  1. I have a dvd burner that doesn't burn anymore. My setup consists of 2 sata HDD's, and only 1 disc drive - the dvd burner. I've recently taken apart the computer and installed it inside a new case, and the old windows installation (before the new case install) is still intact. Now I'm wondering if the change in IDE channels, or master/slave settings of the dvd burner may have caused it to stop functioning. I don't remember how it was set up before the case install. When I made the new case install, I originally had it as secondary master, and I thought that if I changed it to primary master, it would solve the problem, but it didn't.

Next, I installed cdrwin to see if the problem was maybe related to the burning program (roxio media creator), but cdrwin won't even recognize the drive. Roxio does recognize the drive however, here is a screen of the drive info:

Here is a screen of the error:

And here is a screen where the OK button is greyed out when I try to burn:

make sure you have the jumper set correctly on the dvd burner. did you put the jumper to "MASTER" when setting it to PRIMARY MASTER? the jumper is located in the back of the dvd burner.

  3. I checked in the BIOS and the drive shows up as primary master, so the jumper must be set to master.

Did you uninstall all of the IDE drives? Or the primary or secondary IDE channel? (that contain this device).

I would try that, and re-boot - or "scan for new hardware".

I havent' uninstalled any of the drives. In device manager the DVD-burner is recognized correctly.

    1. Just because the BIOS shows your DVD as master doesn't necessarily make it so, check your jumpers.

    2. Uninstall the channel your DVD burner is on. It won't hurt anything or lose any data and it will allow Windows to reset and re-install the channel.

    3. Your drive info screen shows three optical drives. Something wrong there if you have only one.

    4. The error shown is a medium error, most likely because the drive doesn't recognize your media. That may be a software problem or a media problem. I would try different media first as that's easier to change.

    5. Try a different burning program. I suggest ImgBurn.

I think you have confused the OS with some changes. Reseting the IDE channels would be the first thing I would try.

Do I uninstall the IDE channels through BIOS?

Also the screen shows 3 optical drives because I have 2 virtual drives set through daemon tools.
