I guess you are using vlc media player.

Can you post some information about the video? identify the video and audio details with for example gspot or mediainfo.

I have d/loaded 140megs of movie so far and it still wont open in vlc.The bar moves as though it is playing but no movie or sound.

Does that mean it's still downloading? If so, you'll have to wait until it's fully downloaded. There are some apps that supposedly can play partial downloads of certain types, but it's not a sure thing it'll work.

Also, you'd likely have to shut down whatever it is that you are using to download the file in order to open it in a media player. Most players don't like using files 'already in use' by something else.

It also depends what you are downloading it with. Some P2P apps can be set to download the first block with the information needed to display a partial video in a program like VLC. Without that block, the player may not have any reference to the video format and can't play it. MPEGs or DVDs are very hard to preview before they are finished downloading. AVI type files don't seem to have as much of a problem.
