    Aruwin,

Too many cable/dsl modems to try to guess. Can you provide the make and model? Someone may have the same or similar and may be able to help. Have you also checked to make sure the built-in WinXP Windows Firewall isn't the issue? What's the error you're getting from uTorrent?
    Have a good one,

it's a DSL-2640T model. There;s no error from utorrent. It's just that it says My port isnt open which causes the downloading to be very slow. And yes,I've checked and windows firewall isnt the problem

  5. I don't think a port will fix anything. It's slow because other reasons not the port. If the port would be the problem it would not work at all.

There may be more related items within windows firewall.

All you need to do is "add" the following

For tcp add name = utorrent.tcp ... port number as shown by uttorent below
For udp add name = utorrent.udp ... port number below as shown by uttorent below

These should be the only utorrent related items within windows firewall.

As for the modem , Moontrash has given the link to setup "user" ports ... if however you are not seeing the same layout then it may be using custom firmware by the isp ... if this is the case you'll need to dig through each item to locate where the firewall settings are held ... then make the appropriate changes.

That is the correct "website". It's how you control your router, which is what you want to do.

And there will be an option there, or on a submenu, to open ports.
See the manual for your router.

Also http://portforward.com/ may offer some specific advice. (Click to skip the ads; you don't need to buy their software.)

Port forwarding pokes holes into your firewall, so that others on the network (internet) can connect to you, but only through that specific forwarded port number. For bittorrent applications, this is important, so that peers can connect to you (as your app is "listening" to that port), and offer you packets of a torrented file.
Without port forwarding you are "unconnectable", leaving you with less peers, that your app has to request itself through the tracker, and peers may be unable to get through your firewall/NAT device, as closed ports will reject two-way communication.
