    Hey all
Ive been converting movies from iso to ipod with dvdfab platinum. They look great, the only problem is the audio, its real low. I tried watching forest gump the other day and the audio was really really low. This would pose a problem especially when on a plane or in a loud place like the gym in my case.

I know dvdfab platinum has an option to boost the audio, but how much should I boost it too?

I don't want to blow my ears or my earphones. As long as I can hear it fairly loud that would be great. I'm asking because encoding takes a while and testing it too see which one works well would take fairly long. So you input and experience is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jorge

First off, the audio is low when watching the converted video on your pc or the actual ipod ?

What audio track are you retaining ?? the 5.1 or the 2.0 ?

Seeing as you are watching it through an ipod my suggestion would be to keep the 2.0 audio only.

If you need to test it, why not just use the "advanced title settings" in DVDFab Platinum to make just one chapter then it won't take so long, then when you have found the right level, do the whole movie.

What might be just right for some of us might be too loud or too quiet for you.

Well yes I'm watching on the ipod. Some movies have 2.0 and some 5.1 so what would be a good audio boost to have, as long as the audio doesn't sound like sh!t

Yes I understand. The thing is I don't want to test each movie. I have a ton of movies to encode and I need a good recommendation on how much to boost. Some movies like the incredibles has 5.1 only, and some only have 2.0. Obviously I will choose 2.0 if available, but I just need a good recommendation. Anyways, if its too loud you can always lower the volume with the wheel so....

    well... it's hard to say.....

Some movies have louder soundtracks, some have quieter soundtracks.
So what might be just right for one movie might be WAY too loud, even to the point where it will clip and sound like crap at even a lower level for another movie.

Do you know what movie sounds louder and which one sounds quieter, raise the volume to 110 in DFP on one chapter for each one and test.

Sometimes you just have to not be impatient and lazy and do some tests if it's that important to you.
By now you prob. could have done acouple of chapters and found a good midway point 8)

Doing a quick encode on one chapter could not take that long.
Also i don't know if a lower bitrate would affect the soundlevel when encoding to mp4 for an ipod.

I guess raising it and giving it test is the only way. Forest gump seems to be really low so I'll test it with that one and see if it sounds good, then I'll just encode all my movies like that so I won't run into this problem again.
