Aside from the obvious that one is free and one is not, what are the differences in functionality and keeping up with all the latest DVD releases?

Both have same ripping/decrypting function but DVDfab HD Decrypter can ONLY rip to your hdd while Platinum can convert, edit and much more.

With decrypter you can rip a complete disk, or main movie only.
With Platinum, you can shrink, split, merge, burn + convert to a # of portable devices. The ripping capabilities are (AFAIK) the same in both versions.

I don't use anydvd, but DVDFab is updated very often. I haven't found a disc yet that it won't read. Usually within a week (tops) of a new encryption, it is updated. Likely the same as any other app.

    EDIT for spelling.
