My translation was terrible, but I believe he has a Samsung DVD-V6700, zone 1 and wants to know if there is a firmware upgrade or hack to enable it to read VCDs. He does not speak English. Also do any of the official Samsung firmware upgrades enable VCD playback? And apparently the multizone hack listed on our site doesn't work for him.
Or are there links to sites that might have a hack?
Traduje su poste al inglés y alguien aquí puede poder ayudar. Una persona que habla su lanquage nativo puede dar más ayuda.

Hello, I need help. I bought a Samsung DVD-6700 Zone 1 Combo but, It can't read VCDs. Is there any code or firmware to activate this function? In the DVD Hacks section of this forum there is info on how to convert it to multi-zone but it doesn't work with my model.
Note: I found a firmware update at Samsung site, but it doesn't say what it is for. Do you have some info about it?
Thanks in advance. -
According to the manual, this unit supports VCD but NOT SVCD. So it's possible the discs do not meet VCD spec or they are SVCD.
Según el manual, esta unidad apoya VCD pero NO SVCD. Es tan posible los discos no resuelve espec. de VCD o son SVCD.Google is your Friend -
Thank you friends to help me to translate the one post to English, now me apollo in a software to be able to translate from Spanish to English, good, this model of DVD as I have revised it supports VCD but the pattern that it was made for USA doesn't read this format, only reads DVD and it is presisamente the pattern that I have, I think that it should have some code to be able to unblock the option of VCD but I have looked for for the web and I have not been able to find anything, if somebody knows and it could share that information with me, he will be very grateful. Thank you again and waiting answers.
notices: to Krispy Kritter, the cd that I have proven is VCD non SVCD, but like I said above, it doesn't reproduce them, the pattern for USA doesn't have this option.
Does somebody help me? -
Unlike DVD, VCD doesn't have a region code. Any VCD should be playable in any player that supports VCD. I have read of some VCD's that have a form of copy protection that often causes read issues. Otherwise, all that is necessary is for the discs to follow the VCD standard (see the WHAT IS - VCD for more info). The only other thing that comes to mind would be the video format (NTSC or PAL). Since you have a region 1 player (NTSC), the VCD will need to be NTSC (or a player that can play/convert PAL video for your NTSC TV).

Greetings to all, thank you to respond, do I see that this is had enrredado in a way that the correct thing is not, me what I want is to activate the function of VCD since in this reproductive DVD it doesn't reproduce me this format, have I revised in internet and according to the characteristics does read this format, For that mine not?, as I can activate it?, if I upgrade the firmware that there is in the samsung page for this reproducer, do they believe that this option will be activated?, please somebody that helps me that I am on the edge of the desperation, thank you again and waiting answers.
PD: VCD that I introduce is NTSC, non PAL. have I proven them in my other reproducer of DVD samsung and you veen well, not you that it happens that this new one reproductive doesn't want to read them, could Somebody help me?. -
If the VCD's fully meet the VCD specification (you can make VCD's that don't meet the official specification), then I would contact the manufacturer. The DVD-V6700 supports VCD playback. No hacking or firmware updates are needed. Yours is either faulty or as I pointed out above, your discs do not meet the VCD specification. Playing them in another player or on the computer, doesn't mean they conform to the VCD specification.

Are we SOL, those who have US units (region 1)? There's no code that would work from all the variants I've tried so far.
I also have some v5600 and v5650 that need help with...
At nerd-out someone mentioned that the firmware on all US based models have the region hack disabled and one method that's apparently possible is to upgrade to a region 2 firmware, apply the hack and back to US firmware, but then, these are even harder to find.
So far, eveyone that posted about the region hack working on these have been from regions other than 1...
TIA... -
