Since I got yelled at stealing a thread, I'm posting a new one...
Are we SOL, those who have US units (region 1)? There's no code that would work from all the variants I've tried so far.
I also have some v5600 and v5650 that need help with...
At nerd-out someone mentioned that the firmware on all US based models have the region hack disabled and one method that's apparently possible is to upgrade to a region 2 firmware, apply the hack and back to US firmware, but then, these are even harder to find.
So far, everyone that posted about the region hack working on these have been from regions other than 1...
TIA...

Most likely the firmware has been locked (as you already read). There isn't anything else you can do, unless Samsung will give you or release an altered firmware (which isn't likely to happen).

Intersting - found two firmwares from Samsung - an English one (DVD-V6700/XAA and DVD-V6700/XAC) and a 'Common' one (DVD-V6700/XAX)
Contents of the zip file are:
dummy.zzz
DVS670a.bin
But no idea how to apply the firmware...
Googling, the XAA is US, the XAC Canada. No luck on were the XAX is, but would try to flash one of these units, if I figure out how to... -
Typically you just burn to a cdrom.
Google or search the forums for firmware updates.Google is your Friend -
A greetings to All, do I see that there is a new one post based on this model, have they found some solution for this model?, do those that have had the possibility to prove the firmware, unblock the region and does it activate the function of reading VCD?. in case somebody finds it fact, please it could share the information?

suAve - I hope you learned a valuable lesson from this. What you should have learned is:
1) All DVD players can't be made region free. There are no "hacks" for some models.
2) You need to see if a player can be made region free BEFORE you buy it, not afterward.
Typically the firmware is pretty small, so it looks like Samsung is including a dummy file because in the past, some DVD players wouldn't load firmware discs if the firmware file was the only thing on the disc and the total amount of disc space used was very small, so they include a dummy file to make more of the disc to be used. It's really stupid and I'm not sure that they really still have to do this, but it's a case of this was how things were 5+ years ago, so they continue to do it because it works. You may have to burn the disc in a special way as a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Certain Joliet settings may be required. A web search should hopefully provide some info.
