Okay so about 2 weeks ago I installed K-Lite codec pack on a new computer I set up. Today I started seeing ffdshow audio and video boxes showing up in my tray when I play an avi file.

Can anyone tell me why. The only thing I did today prior to this was I burned a data disk using Nero burning rom to try it out. I usually have burned them with Nero Express. When I inserted the disk back and got the "what do you want to do" msg I had it play with WMP. I noticed a box came up saying something about plug-in not loading. I didn't pay much attention to it as I was distracted by a telephone call and closed of WMP. It is when I came back and played the disk that I saw the boxes for the first time. When I exit WMP the boxes disappear. If I play using Nero Showtime the boxes don't appear

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Sounds like WMP is using ffdshow as the codec to play back the file(s).
