I am looking to buy some speakers to add to my mixer, which is probably a Mackie mixer, and i wanted to get some suggestions. I looking to do it for some weddings and probably graduations. From my experience with the graduations, i only need 2 powerful speakers and that would be to the front. Tell me if I am wrong. With the weddings; however, i need at least four, depending on the size of the room. This is to my knowledge. I'm looking for some cost efficient and effective speakers, that is some cheap speakers. However,

I know a little about the specifications for a speaker and have tried reading it up several times and it has swelled my head. I know i should look at the driver type to see if its full range, 2 way or 3 way i think. There is the power so that i would know how much volume i could push towards the speaker without frying it and well that's about it.

What you should be searching for is 'PA speakers'. Home stereo speakers aren't really made to be moved around like PA speakers are. Unfortunately, they aren't often cheap. You might look locally at some music shops as musicians sometimes end up defaulting on payments and they may have a good selection of used PA speakers. PA usually refers to speakers made for hard use, high power, and portability.

Do they need to be powered speakers or passive? (Do you have a PA amp?) This company has a few guides that may help you figure out what you need: http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/live-sound/pa-speakers/

JBL, Electrovoice and Mackie are among the leaders for powered portable speaker systems. In most cities you can rent these by the day. I suggest you rent a few models before you decide to buy. Get some experience with them in different size rooms.

In addition to the mixer, you'll need wireless microphones (Shure brand is most used). You can rent these as well.

This equipment can be shared with the bands in some cases.
