Hello people!! I just a quick question if you don't mind!! I installed my Pioneer DVD writer yesterday.. When i turn the computer on and looked under device manager both of my drives wasnt on there. I went in and deleted all of the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers that "would" delete, and restarted the computer.. And got the same result. Then I went under My Computer to try to click on the E drive becasue it had a cd in it and it said something about an I/O error. Can I have a little help please. It would be greatly appreciated.

Could be a connection problem especially if it used to work. Are the drives properly set to Master and Slave? Try a different IDE cable. See if the drives show up in the Bios settings.

If the bios doesn't see the optical drives, Windows won't either.

The cd-r drive that came with the computer always worked before i hooked up the pioneer. AFter i hooked up the pioneer neither of the two worked. Do both of the drives have to show up on the device manager screen to set them to master and slave? How do you check the bios to see if they will show up?

You set master and slave with jumpers on the drives. The new DVD drive should have included instructions and a new cable. Your computer or motherboard manual will include instructions for bios settings (if necessary).

The drive you have is the RETAIL version of the PIONEER 111. Make sure you're using a 80 conductor ide cable. This a requirement of the drive otherwise it won't work correctly. The drive should be in UDMA 4 MODE. If it isn't then the cable you're using isn't a 80 conductor ide cable.

go to device manager and click on the ide ata/atapi controllers look to see if your drive is in UDMA 4 MODE.

You need to go into the control panel then go to hardware tab then to device manager then to hardware. Click on the IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers, there you'll find PRIMARY, SECONDARY channels. Find the one where your PIONEER 710 drive is on. Usually DMA 5 is the hard drive. If you see UDMA 4 MODE then your PIONEER drive is in the correct DMA mode. If you see PIO or DMA 2 mode then the ide cable you're using is not a 80 conductor ide cable. You can get a 80 conductor ide cable from any local computer store or buy one online. They're very cheap.

Here's a few online store you can buy a 80 conductor ide cable:

    SVC.com 99 cents for a 80 conductor ide cable!

What burning software are you using? Use IMGBURN to burn your dvd media. Is the drive in UDMA 4 mode? Make sure you have the jumpers set correctly to master or slave.

I believe you can use CDBurnerXP Pro to burn AVI files. Here's the download for it. It's a freeware and excellent to use for cds and dvds.

There are guides how to use imgburn.
Imgburn has a BUILD MODE for data.

Post a logfile if you want anyone to help you with the burns.
