Downloaded a Dual Layer DVDR and I only have a Single Layer DVD burner.
Used DVDShrink to convert it down to DVD5 size, but it wont go any lower than 46.1% and its still too big for a standard DVD. Any advice?

    Welcome jweihs

Click reauthor mode , and drag main title over to the left from the other dvdshrink window , and uncheck audio languages not required , and then see what you get as max output ... it helps .

You might be looking at a title which includes angles ... you may in this case need to process the structure using pgcdemux to pull only the required main title from the complete structure ... then use dvdshrink .

Dang ... how long did that download take ... I wouldnt have hung around for it ... but then again , I dont do such things .

And you can also run it through Shrink a second time, though it will likely take a big hit in quality. DVDRebuilder may be a better choice for reducing overlarge DVDs.

But if you do like Bjs mentions and remove a lot of the 'extras' a DVD will often fit. If you really want the extras, you could burn them to a second disc.

    And welcome to our forums.

I hate to sound like a smartazz, but I feel compelled to mention that dual layer burners - pretty nice ones - are less than $50 at many, many places.

cut it in half and burn to 2 dvdrs if you don't want to lose a lot of video quality. search the guides or use dvdshrink in reauthor mode and set start/end points.

The only occaision on which I have encountered this problem was with DVDs which had very large sound tracks. Stripping the menus and extras failed to make enough difference. DVDshrink doen't shrink the audio.

Splitting to two DVDs or burning DL media were the only means to success.

If the disk is marginally close, deleting some soundtracks might help.

    A position I quite understand.

On the flip side of the coin, I have a spindle of DVD+R media (which work very well on both my burners) and a spindle of DL media sitting right next to it. After I encode (and I don't worry about limiting quality) I just select the media the file will fit on, author and burn with Imgburn.
