    I tried putting it into VDub and then extracting the Wav file, which works, but when I try to convert it I can't play the MP3 that I get....

    What audio format and codec was used in the original video? I think there are certain circumstances under which, for example, VirtualDub might save the audio stream as-is, but still label it a wave-format file.

    I usually just use AVI2WAV (haven't tried it against AC3 AVIs, though) to strip the audio stream from an AVI, but I believe you can also try AVIDemux and Goldwave.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
