I'm new to this forum, so I apologize if there is already a thread for this topic. I tried to look but there are so many different topics.

Okay, so I've been having this problem ever since I bought my VHS/DVD combo recorder. Sometimes when I record a show or a movie off t.v onto a dvd, I get this message:

    Recording Error

Can not record on this disc.

    E16 5B037200

I say sometimes because it doesn't happen with every dvd. It happens kind of randomly. It's frustrating, and I don't know what to do. Why does this happen so much? How can I prevent it from happening again? Is there anyway I can fix the DVD so the ERROR message wont pop up when I try to finalize it? Is there anyway you can tell ahead of time that the DVD wont record?

And it doesn't always say "Can not record on this disc". Sometimes there's other messages saying things like "error reading disc". If anyone can help, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  2. The most common reason for this is low quality media or using X16 media with a recorder that was introduced when only x4 or X8 media was readily available. Check the manual and see what the recorder manufacturer recommends or use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden brands which are highly regarded.

    Welcome tyson 21

Most notably these problems come from devices which are highly sensitive to power fluctuations known as spikes or brownouts .

These are common , and because the device is highly sensitive , it should be on a quality power board with some form of active choke , for spike protection ... even the basic board is better than NOT having anything to protect the device .

    After this comes media .

Use only media recommended by the units manual , and nothing else ... the better brands are noted by trhouse .

Issues beyond this may indicate the units lens needs a proper clean .

Turn it off and remove from power source
    Remove top cover
Use pure alcohol and lint free wipes to gently clean the lens (chemists) .

Do not soak the lens or nearby components , and allow to evaporate completely , only , do not wipe clean .

    Reassemple unit
    Reconnect to power
Retry using media that match's that according to user manual only .

Should issues remain , the unit must be returned for service .

I just recently found out that I need dvd -r or dvd-rw. I had dvd+ rw and they weren't recognizable by my recorder. When I stuck them in I got the can't record or disc error message. Maybe yours has the same problem and only works with the one kind of dvd.
