  1. My encoding process keeps failing. When I click the little 'i' button to see the log, the process crashes.

Is the encoding log saved somewhere?

    Thanks.

You can reach the crash log using the Console app. That may provide more useful info.

  3. Will that tell me why the encoding failed?

I'm not looking for OS debug info, just the encoding log which ffmpegX creates.

Check the "Open a terminal window" option in the ffmpegX menu to see ffmpegX progress log in real time.

    "the process crashes"

You have other issues that need to be addressed. Start by repairing permissions on your boot drive.

  6. It only crashes when the encoding fails. I think this is because of the huge volume of log data which mpeg2enc produces. I don't think I have this problem with the ffmpeg encoder. I'm pretty sure my boot drive is fine, but I'll try repairing anyways.

The terminal window thing was OK, but if the process crashed while I was away from the computer (which I usually am for encoding), I still wouldn't get to see it. Plus you don't get a progress bar this way.

I just wish ffmpegx would also write the log to disk, instead of just the screen. Are there any scripts maybe that could redirect the terminal output to a file?
