Ok, I got some videos I would Like to convert, but the video codec is WMV3 and the audio is MP3. I want to just make them WMV's and be done with it, but nothing can read/stream the video allowing me to effect just the audio. any advise?

OK...your title states audio...but your message states video conversion. Which are having issues with? Are you just trying to convert the original files to wmv? If so, have you tried WMM?

You can also look in the HOW TO : CONVERT section...then choose convert avi to wmv...you will get a list of guides.

Are your files AVI (with WMV3 and MP3 streams inside) or are they ASF (with WMV3 and MP3 streams inside)?
Makes a difference. Many apps should read the 1st, and as long you you've got the WMV-VCM codec installed, should have no problem decoding both streams.
With that, I'd take them into Vdub and save the MP3 stream separately, then (optionally decoding to LPCM WAV 1st) use that as a source for WME to make a WMA file.
Then, load the original in Graphedit and rewrap the Video stream ONLY into an ASF/WMV wrapper.
Then take this and your WMA file into WME's Stream Editor utility app and merge the V from the rewrapped, and the A from the WMA, and make a REGULAR WMV.

If it's already an ASF (what a weird combination!), I'm not sure what you could do, except maybe Graphedit that as well.

It's AVI. If I tell it to run as a ASF or WMV the programs go a little nuts. But the bigger problems I was having was getting the file so there was video only, in the WMV wrap. I have used Graphedit, but I can't figure out the proper flow to get the video wrapped in WMV.

Can you please explain what I need to do to get the WMV3 video to a regular WMV file so I can go on?I really don't want to re-encode the video if I don't have to.
EDIT : As in, what filters I need to use to get the proper wrap. I have the audio set up, but getting the video in the proper WRAP is troublesome.

Am I going to have to start a new topic? I would rather not, but I really don't know the proper filters to load up to get the WMV3 video into the standard WMV wrapper.

That's a more straightforward way to re-mux as ASF/WMV. Good call.

Well, it gets the video out but keeps the AVI wrapper. I tried re-encoding it, previewing it and even at 1MB a second it looked horrible.

Are you sure you DL'd the right thing?

I tried it myself with a test file that I forced (via Graphedit) a WMV9 video into AVI (since I didn't currently have the VCM version codec installed on that PC and didn't want to add more crap).

It remuxed it from the AVI to the ASF/WMV. That's what it's supposed to do...

Also, the video shouldn't need REENCODING. Just the audio.

Well, I am wondering if I might have a partly corrupt file. Even if I re-downloaded it, I would have the same file. MD5 check's out.
The only reason I tried video re-encoding was because of it not being able to get a proper wrapper, so I couldn't do anything.
Assuming it's partly corrupt, I will go with trying to re-encode the video to something else. Takes time, but reliable.
Thanks for the input Scott, Krispy Kritter, and 45trpp
