Does anyone have both QuickTime Alternative and RealAlternative installed together and working properly with their browser? I use windows XP and both Firefox 2.0.0.1 and IE7.

Since I have a dialup connection, I want to avoid downloading RealPlayer and Quicktime again, which I don't use as media players. So if you've found either RealAlternative or QuicktimeAlternative to be poor substitutes for the real thing while web surfing, I'd like to know about that too.

Why do I want these codecs? Well, although I have not yet done so, I want to install MPEGStreamclip and play with it a bit. As I understand it, this also requires installing QuickTime Alternative to be able to work with mpeg2 files, and unfortunately, QuickTime Alternative is bundled with Media Player Classic.

I tried Media Player Classic a couple of years ago, and was not thrilled with it. Plus, when I needed RealPlayer to view something on a website, it failed to work properly, because some of the required files had apparently been overwritten when I installed Media Player Classic. That being the case, I want to download RealAlternative as well, which will hopefully solve my problems with those pesky websites.

  3. They work fine for the most part on the web as well. I've never had any major issues with them. It's basically Real and Quicktime's codecs without the players. The only problem comes when some websites don't find the player on your system and assume the codec isn't there either. I've had that happen very seldom.
