I was just wondering what software you would recommend that will quickly convert a DVD file to Divx? Or is 90-120 minutes average time to convert a 22 minute episode? So far the best program I have found was through a How To guide here... the program is called AutoGK... Is that the best?

I wonder this because I see that episodes of recently broadcast shows like "Survivor", "Grey's Anatomy", etc are being posted on the Usenet within hours of their broadcast... How are they doing this so fast??? And without commercials?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks, Patrick

This is not dvd authoring. Moving you to our dvd to avi (divx, xvid) forum.

  3. A 2 GHz Celeron is pretty slow these days. I believe AutoGK will use a 2-pass VBR encoding by default. If you switch to single pass constant quantizer (constant quality) encoding you can cut your encoding time in half. (Though you can't precisely control the file size with CQ encoding.) Using Divx instead of Xvid may cut your encoding time in half. A mid-range Core 2 Duo system will encode three or four times faster than your celeron.
