OK.This is the first attempt. I got a RMVB file which I converted into Divx Avi format with Ultra RM Converter. The video setting was set to be the original size of the video, which was 640 x 480. The frame rate was 23.976. There is also a box to check that says" Add letterbox to keep aspect ratio"
So I checked it. I converted the file and it turned out fine on the computer. Nothing was cut off.
Next, I used Movie DVD Maker to burn the file onto a DVD. I selected NTSC and the aspect ratio of 4:3 and checked the box that said to add a Letterbox. I burned the DVD and went to play it on my standard TV and the edges of the video were cut![]()
Second attempt. Used RM Converter again with the same settings except I changed it to resize the video to 720 X 480, I also changed the frame rate to 29.97. Converted and got my Divx Avi file.
I used Movie DVD Maker again and used the same setting on it as I did on the first attempt.Burned and went to view the DVD and this time the video was thin. Less was cut off on the edges though.
Please help me out on this. My DVDs are running low![]()

Nothing was cut off. Look up Overscan in the glossary. Basically, the edges of all videos are hidden to some degree by the edges of your TV screen. On my CRT, I loose about 2% from the top and the bottom, and around 5% from each side. PC screens do not do this.
Given you are starting with an RMVB file, I would be guessing anime with fansubs hard embedded in the video. For some reason, fan-subbers don't seem to expect you to play these back on your TV, only on a PC, so they put the subs in the wrong place.
The only fix is to make the screen smaller, then add black borders around, then encode. This will force the image back into the visible area inside the overscan region.
FitCD creates an avisynth script that will do this correctly, however I don't know if Ultra RM Convertor will read avs files.Read my blog here.
