I'm burning a video to DVD setup as 16:9 and ripped ntsc 16:9. It shows the widescreen fine on a PC but when it's viewed on a flat screen TV, the sides get cut off. I tried adjusting the aspect settings on the TV but all it does is stretch the video out. Is there a setting that I'm missing so that is plays the entire area on a widescreen TV? ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you should have a couple of zoom modes on the tv. If the default one you use cuts it off back off the zoom a bit.
My hdtv has standard, fill, and overscan. Standard is kind of zoom 0, fill is another increment up and overscan really goes in farther.
Set your zoom mode to the lowest setting and you should be ok.
The other thing to try is check for a 16:9 mode. Every tv has different terminology but if you find one that says widescreen mode that should be the one that works.

And welcome to the forum
EDIT - also do normal commercial widescreen dvds show up ok on the tv through the dvd player? You may need to change the output on the dvd player to widescreen 16x9 if it crops commercial discs. FYI.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Thanks yoda313. I did try the aspect settings which had the zoom, full, etc but all it did was stretch the area (but not show the cut off sides). I guess it's just a hardware thing with my TV since it does show the full area on the PC. Appreciate the feedback.

You might want to check your dvd player settings anyway. They may be making it difficult on you. They should be set to 16x9 widescreen.
Also how do you have your dvd player connected? Is it composite, component or hdmi? If you have the option of comoponent or hdmi that should be used first to provide the best picture quality.
Good luck.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I'm having the same issue and because I'll be distributing the DVD to different people, I don't want to take chances on their personal DVD or TV settings. Did you ever figure out why Premiere is cropping off the sides of the DVD when played on a widescreen TV, even though the project settings are for widescreen? I don't understand why it plays properly on a computer but the sides are cropped off on a widescreen TV. Please help if you gained any additional insight into this.

It's probably because of overscan. Are just the sides cropped? how much?
-
It's just the sides that are cropped - probably 50 - 100px on each side. What do you mean by overscan? How can I solve this?
-
If JUST sides and so much as 50-100px then it's probably not overscan(put your mouse over the word). But premiere can't crop if it looks okey on the computer....something else is wrong...

I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 9 and created an HD DVD. The sides aren't cut off on my HD TV, but some of the tops of photos are. I haven't tried to adjust the resolution on the TV yet, but could that be the problem?
Thanks. -
We have the same problem with Adobe PE 9 - non widescreen PAL video camera and project. Plays ok on PC and laptop. tried on widescreen TV with 2 different DVD players, also on a widescreen portable TV with built in DVD player. sides missing on playback as poster above describes. Makes no different altering aspect ratios on TV. Will also be distributing to several parents as a kids play and person each side is not on it. Has anyone managed to solve this problem? Any suggestions gratefully received.
