I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D and used to be burning 8x disks that worked fine.
I bought some 1-16x disks from play (100 of them )

I then tried to burn using nero and dvd decryptor and it wont write above 4x!
I try selecting max speed or dvd decryptor and on nero it wont let me select any other speed

at the end of Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D it says 1.08 could that be a low version or something? sorry i;m newb hehe

    What is the problem?

Those are going to be one of these media id's - MXL RG04 (unlikely), RITEKF1 (very likely) or ProdiscF02 (likely). My guess is that newer firmware might help. Go here:

    http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/support/support/software.html#fdvdwriter

and scroll down to the link for 110D fw version 1.41 dated 5/26/06. If you already updated firmware then I'm not sure what to suggest that is easy. Good luck.

Burning speed is controled by the firmware of the burner. If you have the latest firmware, then there is nothing further you can do except to get a different brand of media.

Chances are, your burner doesn't perform well with that type/brand of media, and that is the reason for the firmware only setup to burn it as 12x. It's usually not the best idea to burn media at 16x anyway, especially when you aren't using quality media.

First of all. thanks for the help! - Appreciated!

Why is it not a good idea to burn media at 16x btw?
Does that means its not a good idea to burn media at 12x or is that a good idea?

What are good brands for my pioneer 110d has anyone got one and could reccommend anything? :S

You may want to use MCSE to see what media tables are in your firmware and the speeds which are supported for those media. MCSE is listed in the tools section on this site.

The conventional wisdom on this site is to burn TY or Verbatim media, and many owners of japanese badged DVDwriters recommend burning at half the rated speed.

If I could only burn reliably at half the rated speed, I'd throw my DVDwriter into the trash, and buy another. But that's just my opinion.
