hi, I have prepared my video for being burnt to a DVD+R on my Dell Inspiron DVD+RW/CDRW combo drive, and when i click on burn disc (using Sony DVD architect), the following error comes up:
is there anything i can do to fix this?'SFMMCX'-(17)
''-(0)
-'HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N C108'-(0)
Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 1401
Status: ff000000
Command: 04 11 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Sense: 00 00 00
Info: 00 00 00 00
Specific: 00 00 00
Extra:
i tried burning the disc using Nero Express and used the prepared video files but this is causing my laptop to just freeze.
i have only ever used the drive to burn data/mp3/picture CDs, which works fine.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
iain

I'm not familiar with that software, and honestly, there is likely better free software available here. Just take a look in the software section and look through the guides to get instructions on what you are attempting to do.
My first guess would be a software issue, but since I don't know that software, I don't know how else to help. It wouldn't be a bad idea to check the software website to see if there are any updates/patches. Second would be a media issue, could be a bad disc or bad set of discs.
You could also ensure you have the latest firmware installed on the drive, that should help eliminate most media issues. The Dell support page is here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releasei...&fileid=117870Google is your Friend -

iainw,
First, let me qualify my advice by saying that although I have and use Dvd Architect, I never use it for burning, so I've never seen a burn log from it before. The burn log is kind of sparse on the details, and the atapi error isn't reported in the normal way.
The good news is your GCA-4040N drive does burn dvds. The okay (or even good) news is there's newer firmware available for your drive available here (straight from Dell). The not-so-good news is the burner isn't talking to your software (ataipi error 000000). The standard explanation is there is an unstable connection between the computer and the drive, or interference introduced by other programs running at the same time.
To be honest, your best bet would be to just have Dvd Architect output the dvd file structure, and try burning it with ImgBurn. It sounds like it may not work either, but the burn log would give more details of what the problem might be. If you have a dvd-r blank, you can use "Test Mode" in ImgBurn so you don't have to make a coaster to get the log. If all you have is +R, "Test Mode" is a real burn, not a simulated one.
