Hi, I want to play some DivX files on my Pioneer DV393S DVD player and have been able to get them to play on CD-R discs but was wondering if and how I can play them if I burn several of them onto a DVD-R disc and then finalise it. I have such a disc with a few files on it (finalised) but it won't play in the player. Is there something I need to do differently?

    Thanks.

If your DVD player supports Divx, it will say so in either the manual or on the player itself. If your player supports Divx, normally just burning the files onto CD-R or DVD-R as data files is enough. Note that Divx support is NOT a firmware issue. The player must be manufactured with a special chip designed to decode Divx. No chip - no Divx support. Even on DVD players that support Divx, the following Divx options can be problematic:

    1) GMC with warp points greater than 1
    2) QPel (Quarter pixel)
    3) Packed bitstream
    4) Files larger than 2 GB
    5) Bit rates higher than 2000 Kbps and DTS or AC3 audio
