A friend of mine copied a VHS tape to DVD, plays fine (DVD) He tried to copy, the DVD he made, no copyguard, from the VHS, and it (DVD) won't copy. The DVD has no copyguard either, nor the VHS.
Sent it to me, same probelm. I got it to copy by going DVD player to DVD-R recorder. Why won't the DVD copy, on the computer (Dvd-R) ?

Does the DVD itself stand up and say "I refuse to copy!" or is there perhaps some error msg or physical result of the process which might lend some useful information?

I used Nero, hit quick copy, and it gave me an error message,

Was it recorded on one of the cheaper DVD recorders like the Liteon recorders? I have been using DVD FabDecryptor for months now as DVD Decryptor stops at 99% on discs that come out of my Liteons. I just rip them in file mode (full disc) and copy them to another disc with Ashampoo Burning Engine in "Make Movie from Folder" mode....

did he finalize the disc after he created it on his recorder ?
if not, the only way to copy is a file copy ?
without being finalized, the disc is seen as incomplete, yes even though it plays -
theewizard's right... has the dvd been finalised??...
if you try using windows explorer and can't seem to read the disc at file level but can play it on a standalone player, then chances are, it hasn't been finalised... -
I've found that, depending on DVD media quality, a backup can be impossible to backup again. On low q media, there's always some read error that makes a simple backup impossible (but hopefully few enough to keep the disk playable). Hence, always store the original in ISO format somewhere on your HDD should you need another copy.
Try making your backup with DVDFab Decrypter, which is more forgiving to read errors.

The disc was finalized as it played in my computer, and my 3 DVD players,
Weird ?

Have you tried running FixVTS on the disc? I thnk you can uncheck a box that says something like "fix in place", and chose a new directory for the output files... But I'm not sure, as I don't have that program on this computer.
You say if you could see the disc in Windows (i.e. go in and explore the disc), or not. If you can go into the disc, have you tried just highlighting everything and copying it to a new folder on your hard drive?
What exactly did the error message say?"Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgment."

1.Drag the VIDEO_TS folder to your desktop then burn.
2. DVDDecrypter ->ISO Read->ISO Write.
3. IsoBuster to rip then burn.
BTW..when you selected Nero Quick Copy did you select "make an image" or did you select on-the-fly? -
And people wonder why I occassionally get just a wee bit irritable.
What I really want is a way to reach right through the monitor, and..... -
The error message said "Burn process failed"Read my blog here.

Have you tried the obvious (that moviegeek suggested a while back) DVDDecrypter ISO Read + ISO Write?
