what does this mean exactly? I get it encoding certain discs with Shrink.

It is an error than is coming from your drive itself. It means that the reader cannot read an area on your disc. There are two causes for this. The first is a bad spot on the disc that makes it unreadable. The second is some form of copy protection that deliberately makes an area on the disc unreadable that Shrink can't break.
