  1. The quality looks fine when watching, but this annoying green border keeps popping up on the sides of the movie. What is that and how can I get rid of it? Or is it a codec that's causing it?

  2. Hi-

Did you encode them yourself? What's the resolution of these AVIs (check with GSpot if you don't know)? Does it happen with all your AVIs of all different resolutions? What player are you using?

  3. No, I didn't encode them myself.
    Resolution is 596x246 (2.42:1) [~46:19]
Bitrate is 824kb/s, FPS is 23.97

I'm using Windows Media Player to watch them.

  4. As I suspected, the resolution is screwy. That 246 is only Mod2 (divisible by 2), where ideally it should be Mod16, or at least Mod8. Even the 596 is only Mod4.

My suggestions include using a real player like Media Player Classic (which may or may not work to fix it), or reencoding it with AutoGK (probably the better solution), which might make it something like 592x240. Your AVI was encoded by an idiot.

  5. Update your Divx decoder if you don't have a recent one. Or use Xvid instead of Divx.
