    Good day all.

I've been capturing some VHS video to my hard drive through a Hauppauge PVR-350. I captured and edited in 12,000 bps. The video looked great.

When I went to author with GUIforDVDAuthor, the program kicked me an error saying that "too many frames were being dropped."

Do I need to reencode to a lower bitrate before I author? What procedure would you recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

From 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left on this page:
Total bitrate including video, audio and subs can be max 10.08 Mbps (10080 kbps)
That may be your problem. If so, then you would need to re-encode to a lower bitrate. You can use a bitrate calculator (Available in 'Tools') to select the proper bitrate to fill your DVD disc. Then re-encode your video to the lower bitrate. You probably don't need to re-encode the audio if it is already in a DVD compliant format, just allow for the size of it when you set your bitrate in your encoder. And allow about 100 - 200 MB for authoring. If you need a encoder, there are freeware ones available, also in 'Tools'.

  3. You might try another program such as TDA or Ulead VideoStudio.I recommend using a max video bitrate of 8Mbps to capture.

    Thanks guys.

I think I'll just recapture at 8,000 bps and do the authoring again. I can't seem to figure out how to set the PVR 350 capture rate at 9000, which is what I'd really like.

I'm still trying to get this thing right.

    I really apprecaite the help.
