    Hi!

I just got a Philips DVP5960. And it all works great!
However, some of my Divx files don't play. the sound works, but the picture isn't there (Greys anatomy season 2 ep1, Battlestar Galactica Season 1, Itchi the Killer to name a few) Is there any way of fixing this problem? a firmware hack somewhere that resolves it?

If anyone knows of a good solution, I'd love to hear it!

Also, what is the firmware upgrade i should be using? i live in the UK, not really sure what model it is (/37, /05 etc). Is there a tried and tested best site to get my upgrades from?

Thanks for any info you can give me!

Use gspot to identify any differences between working and non working files. There typically isn't any simple upgrade to firmware xx fix for these issues. There are too many variables in how an avi file can be encoded. You need to identify what the player won't play and then correct the issue in the files themselves.

Would the resolution affect playback? I checked Greys anatomy ep compared to ep 2, and episode 1 (which doesn't play) is 960 x 544, whereas episode 2, which plays fine is 624 x 352.
Other than that, I can't find any real differences, they both use Xvid, 1 is XviD 1.0.2 and 2 is XviD 1.1.0 Beta 2 but i can't see that affecting anything.
So is there a way to change the resolution of a file? to find out if it will run? or is that just not possible?

    Thanks again for any help

  4. The 5960 won't play anything over 720 pixels wide.

To reduce the frame size you can use any number of video editing programs. AVIRecomp, AutoGK, VirtualDub, etc.
